Review of The Lives of Others (2006) by Jon T — 08 Aug 2018
This is a truly exceptional film and deservedly got the Best Foreign movie Oscar ahead if the heavily tipped Pans Labyrinth. What makes it so compelling is the central character, a man apparently without an interior and hence the perfect communist functionary, discovers his humanity.
A landmark in German cinema. Incidentally if you wonder at the reach of the Stasi, l worked in North Wales and it turned out one of our colleagues worked for them!
