Review of The Little Stranger (2018) by Steve H — 03 Sep 2018
Was very excited to see what Abrahamson did after Room, as that was my #1 movie that year, and thankfully he did not disappoint with The Little Stranger. This one grabbed me from the start with the gorgeously detailed settings and top notch acting from an A+ cast. I generally dislike horror but have trouble classifying it as such, as many of the traditional horror tropes were not employed here, instead seeking a more cerebral form of uncertainty and, at times discomfort. This one probably isn't for those seeking instant thrills or impressive gore but those willing to settle in and immerse themselves fully will find they are rewarded quite nicely. Debated heavily between a 3.5* and a 4* here.
*AMC A-List Movie #8.
