Review of The Limey (1999) by David R — 05 Nov 2007
"It's GET CARTER by Resnais" was Steven Soderbergh's assessment of his soulful, existential revenge film. Terence Stamp is a British ex-con, tearing up Los Angeles to find those responsible for his daughter's death.
Stamp's sadness, anger and dislocation seem to affect the film itself, distorting time and space, turning a foreign city into a mournful landscape. Soderbergh effortlessly balances his genre influences, creating a film that is redemptive, smart, and soulful.
