Review of The Legend of Boggy Creek (1972) by Al M — 14 Jun 2012
Even before Ruggero Deodato's Cannibal Holocaust, Legend of Boggy Creek presages the genre to come with its faux-documentary exploration of a Sasquatch-type creature in southern Arkansas. Cheesy and poorly acted throughout, Boggy Creek still manages to craft a creepy vibe despite its completely cheap aesthetic.
I am sure it was even more powerful if seen back in the 70s. It feels a bit dated now but is still an enjoyable little horror film that shows how a G-rated film can create suspense, and it is rather revolutionary in its documentary approach to the horror film.
