Review of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) by Jake Y — 09 Feb 2013
Ok, so I'm about to lose a shit ton of credibility here, but I don't care- I love this movie. I love it in spite of its flaws, nay, BECAUSE of its flaws. I love this film even though I know it's a terrible adaptation of some quality comics. I love it so much, and no, I have no real defense.
But I'll try.
Very loosely based on the comic books by Alan Moore, the story is thus: at the turn of the century, a devious terrorist called the Phantom is pushing the nations of the world to the brink of war. The British government knows of this plot, and is desperate to save the world from erupting into global conflict.
Alas for the British!
M (Richard Roxburgh) sends his head man Sanderson Reed (Tom Goodman-Hill) to recruit the biggest badasses in all of literature to form the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Leading the group is the legendary Allan Quartermain (Sean Connery).
