Review of The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness (2013) by Dustin G — 17 Feb 2016
A beautiful, beautiful film about a true master of filmmaking.
The english title is perfect and is as much about Studio Ghibli as it is about Miyazaki himself.
On the surface it's about a man making a movie, but it's also a touching portrait of perfectionism, ageing, work ethic and even depression.
I've always loved Miyazaki's work and I truly hope The Wind Rises isn't his last film. But even if it is, it's a hell of a way to go out.
Overall this is probably one of the best films I've ever seen about filmmaking and filmmakers.
