Review of The King (2019) by Thewaffle — 28 Dec 2019
The King succeeds where many historical dramas fail. Instead of glorifying warfare, The King exposes warfare as a violent and pathetic endeavor. Henry's stoic stance for peace complements well with the scenes of men brutally butchering one another, sliding in the mud, and falling to the ground in their clumsy armor.
The heroic tales of battle are absent; instead portrayed as awkward jumbled masses of bodies and horses. The end result is a spectacular anti-war film that mocks the prideful posturing of kings and princes that has caused so much violence and death through the ages.
