Review of The Island (2007) by Joe L — 07 Jul 2011
A wonderful yet chilling tale of a strange mix of religion and self discovery. It's a great film with beautiful backgrounds and a lead character who is so odd yet so mesmerizing on screen. The film is highly original in it's take on extreme religious ceremonies (particularly exorcism) and deals with the issues in a way not usually seen.
It's built around a simple backdrop and a simple past, and overall the man's life is well simple. It's full of great characters and I always looked forward to see how he would help each new person who came.
But there is so much to this movie and though some may tire of it's slowness, others will love it. It's a very pleasant surprise of a film that just happened to fall into my viewing pleasure and I'm glad it did.
