Review of The Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome (1954) by Amani B — 07 Oct 2008
A visually stunning and very ballsy film for 1954.
Pre-psychedelic Cult Psychedelia...
I could not however get into the operatic score he chose for this. ("A Slavonic Mass" by Leos Janacek). It didn't work for me. I could imagine playing this on a projector, with a completely different soundtrack, and it would have taken this in a much better direction.
Nonetheless, I commend him for doing this in the paranoid, conservative 50's.
