Review of The Gunman (2015) by Nick R — 21 Mar 2015
Competent thriller, with a little bit of Politics thrown in. Very violent in parts, but mostly well acted. Interesting to see the great Mark Rylance on film. I am not sure he is wholly suited to the part, but does his best, as does Idris Elba, with all too little to do.
Ray Winstone also shines although is rather typecast. Penn himself is plausible and does all the running around and shooting things. He is less convincing when required to converse with the other actors.
Nice use of locations including a Russell Group medical school. Loved the Interpol character whose business card gave his address as my old place of work. Refreshingly un-American.
