Review of The Grandmother (1970) by Julian W — 31 Dec 2009
Of all the short films I have seen so far in my life, "The Grandmother is my favorite". It combines David Lynch's surreal animation with live action to great effect. The animation part is more metaphorical, as its events do not seem to directly intersect with the live action part. The live action part contains choppy movement, which actually enhances the movie experience by upping the austerity level. Other favorite parts of the movie: how the parent's speak (they can only see Mott), the strange food that the parents feed the son and the enigmatic ending.
This movie is when David Lynch became a cinematic genesis. Highly reccomended.
