Review of The Grandmaster (2013) by Florian H — 08 Sep 2013
Ok, this is not a Kung Fu movie. It's not anything like Ip Man 1 or 2. There's very little fighting. It's a movie about the code and honor of martial arts, China's history, and the journey of two people.
Visually it's spectacular, and often looks like a painting. It's also slow-paced (even though they cut out 30 minutes for the US market) which leads to some holes in the storytelling. But it's a movie Hollywood could never make, with so much attention paid to details.
And Ziyi Zhang is so beautiful - I think I'm in love!
