Review of The Governess (1998) by Scott S — 26 Mar 2013
Set in the1840's a Jewish girl must support her family by taking a job as the governess of the mean spirited spoilt daughter of a wealthy man. However, she is quickly fascinated by the work of the man, experimenting an early form of photography, and starts collaborating with him, as well as a love affair.
Inspired by adult works of classic literature, this film is quite clumsy, cold and too conventional to stand out in any way, though the art direction makes it look quite nice.
