Review of The Good Lie (2014) by Katherine S — 21 Feb 2015
This film about a group of Sudanese child refugees running from civil war, alone and spending years in a camp before going to the USA suffers slightly from worthiness, but equally and more so benefits from an honest approach aided by the leads being played by actual ex-child soldier refugees.
Their literal christianity finds America a heathen mystery, but their family values see them through for a story that will easily produce tears at times. Small details bring it into an extra dimension such as when one is asked how he got a scar on his arm.
Overall very much well worth seeing especially as the mix of resource wars and refugees resonates so hard in Australia.
