Review of The Flowers of War (2011) by George C — 18 Dec 2011
I have no idea what movie the other user saw, but Flowers of War is quite possibly the best film I've seen in my entire life. Unquestionably a masterpiece. It is a deeply heartbreaking portrayal of the Nanking Massacre, seen through the eyes of the most innocent.
Christian Bale and Lin Lin are stunning. The color and cinematography is mind blowing. The film is a roller coaster of emotion, suspense, thrills, comedy, beauty, and tragedy. All shown with unparalleled artistry.
If you have seen Hero or House of Flying Daggers, this film puts them to shame. It is somewhat similar to Schindler's List, but far superior in every way. You will be making a huge mistake if you do not see this film.
You will be in tears by the time the credits roll. It deserves the Best Foreign Language Film, it deserves Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Actor, Best Actress, it deserves everything. I got out of the theater hours ago and my heart is still pumping.
