In retrospect this is a rather goofy movie which takes itself too seriously. A shame as Karloff really tried to expand his acting chops, but couldn't quite pull it off as well as Lorre - and that's not really a compliment.
But a more nuanced remake (with proper casting & script) might be worth doing.
