Review of The End of St. Petersburg (1927) by David K — 13 Apr 2008
A pioneer in what cinema is today, Pudovkin helped establish the Soviet Montage theory which is essential to every movie that is made. "Konets Sankt-Peterburga" has some pretty outstanding sequences, but the film's purpose is that of propoganda.
Because of that, I found the story weak and unrealistic. Even though that may have been the point, to embellish the Russian Revolution of 1917, it still doesn't make for that entertaining of a film.
Technically though, the film has a lot to offer.
