Review of The Devil and Daniel Johnston (2006) by Rachel B — 17 Sep 2006
Stumbling across this flick was one of the greatest things to happen to me in years. Devotees know I put a lot of stock into how a film changes your state of mind. The Devil and Daniel Johnston accomplishes just that. I was taken aback by his music initially, but as I came to understand the man and his work, I fell in love with everything he's done. His art and music are so pure and real, and he, as a human being, is so pure.
I can't recommend this enough. I've never sat through credits unless there was some sort of bonus teaser footage tacked on. In the case of this flick, I sat through just to hear more of his beautiful music with the video footage of himself in a Casper the Friendly Ghost mask. I can't put into words the way it made me feel..
