Review of The Deep Blue Sea (2011) by Ian Y — 03 Dec 2011
"One can't go on living on a flat plain" says Rachel Weisz in this film based on Terence Rattigan's play. Set in the 1950s, full of melancholia and in the shadow of the Second World War, this film follows the story of a woman who leaves a position of comfort to follow a relationship which she knows from the start is doomed.
Where the choice is between passion and guarded enthusiasm, she chooses the former. A sad film with understated performances - its origins as a play are obvious - but it is well made and acted, and certainly worth seeing.
