Review of The Dead Lands (2014) by Skye T — 17 Apr 2015
The focus of the film's interest is the depiction of the Maori Warrior and on that level, it delivers. The execution of the combat, something that balances between brutal attacks and showmanship intended as intimidation, is fascinating, if largely primal.
It is with this device that the filmmakers maintain your interest throughout this largely familiar story that borrows more than slightly from Joseph Campbell. It's as blunt as a Mere club to the head, but in this case, that's okay.
