Review of The Day After Tomorrow (2004) by Todd V — 07 Aug 2014
A great disaster movie with thrills and chilling storytelling. Another fun, funny, exciting, visceral movie that is light years before its time. There are some brilliant effects and this movie was just so good and reminded me of why I absolutely love movies.
This was one of the first that I watched in my life and I found it pretty much the start of high quality moviemaking in the United States. Without this movie, there may not have been the cultural explosion the last 10 years.
It may have been stuck in some 2002 kind of dweebfest. Something that has no base in reality (smart dweebs being all pretentious and smart, trying to one-up each other, in 2002). That's not how I ever saw movies, and that's what makes this movie so special, because of the spillover effect of all the other blockbusters that came out before and after it, holding it up as another masterpiece of genius storytelling and effects.
