Review of The Dawn Patrol (1938) by Ian C — 28 Jul 2008
This World War I war drama offers one of Errol Flynn's finest performances - Flynn's one of my favorite actors, and I grew up on his swashbuckler movies, so it's always interesting to see him in other types of roles besides sword-swinging woman-wooing daredevils.
He also has an excellent supporting cast to work with, including David Niven and Basil Rathbone. As with Flynn, it's a treat to see Basil Rathbone in a different type of role - but it's weird to see them talking as friends instead of dueling with swords.
Also a powerful anti-war film, about the futility and ultimate tragedy of warfare.
