Review of The Crooked Way (1949) by Christopher S — 17 Jan 2011
Stylish film noir from director Robert Florey showcases the extraordinary black and white cinematography of John Alton - this is some of his best work, making for some superb, quintessential noir imagery.
Unfortunately, the story isn't quite on the same level as the visuals, with stiff acting and an underwhelming plot - though it does get better toward the end. Flawed, but the visuals alone make this a must for film noir fans.
