Review of The Crimson Kimono (1959) by Scott A — 08 Mar 2018
I have 3 complaints about this movie-.
1. The acting of James Shigeta- I Feel that this early in his career his acting was over the top, as was his performance. the climactic ending, where shigeta realizes the killer (Greene) is speaking about what she sees in the face of her lover is very clumsy.
2. The shadow of the camera panning in a bedroom scene of shigeta and shaw.
3. The "board breaking" (or failure to do so) in "karate" scenes where those attempting to do so are in judo uniforms, with the word "judo" on a poster on the wall. Judo is not board breaking, and karate students don't wear judo uniforms.
I think "house of bamboo" was a much better film, with better acting, and much more realism. making this "noir" movie weave around a love triangle was very awkward.
