Review of The Counselor (2013) by Aaron M — 23 Jan 2016
This might be the first Ridley Scott flick I've ever liked. There was a lot of talk about how this movie was clumsy, bloated, rambling, lost, and lacking suspense. I found it anything but meandering or without purpose.
The structure was precise, the dialogue was lean. It was more cerebral, less action. Thankfully the only car chase lasted less than a minute. There weren't any rooftop chases driven by tense rhythmic scores that try to hide the blasà (C) reality of a movie clichà (C).
Thrills are cheap. The characters were complicated. Some good. Others nasty as the devil. There are no heroes here.
