Review of The Cat's Meow (2001) by Marley R — 17 Aug 2008
Slow, but interesting, drama about greed, power, lust, betrayal and murder which doesn't really hit the marks square on any of those elements. The film's main charm is its sumptuous 1920's atmosphere, the star-studded cast playing the star-studded guests (including Eddie Izzard, bizarrely, as Charlie Chaplin) and the gorgeous production design.
Kirsten Dunst and Edward Herrmann, Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Tilly are particularly good and also help overcome the film's lumbering pace and semi-effective tension.
