Review of The Black Cat (1941) by Brian B — 16 Sep 2009
This odd mixture of horror, comedy and old dark house mystery from Universal never quite gels into a good B movie. Top billed Basil Rathbone is really a supporting player and Bela Lugosi is wasted in his small role as the required creepy groundskeeper.
Burly Broderick Crawford is miscast as the lead. The comedy of vaudevillian Hugh Herbert quickly grows tiresome.
