Review of The Big Sick (2017) by Jay P — 16 Jul 2017
This movie really speaks to me. I love so many aspects of this film. Luckily I stumbled into the theater and saw it before all they hype had gotten to me-so that added I am sure. Hollywood does itself a disservice by showing too much in previews, so to avoid that I had a head start.
From the get go, I was "in" and then Zoe comes along and sucks me in further. Ray Romano and Holly Hunter are excellent as are Kumail's family. For me the film is funny without trying to hard.
It was also very moving in many ways. On 2 separate views (2nd time with my gf) I found myself getting emotional and even crying. I can understand once, but when I knew what was going to happen next? Very well done throughout.
Honestly I don't get that anyone could give this less than 3 or 4 stars. For me it was total home run. I never do, but I could see myself buying this rom/sob-com.
