Review of The Big Country (1958) by Michael O — 23 Nov 2010
I have nothing bad to say about this movie. This is such a great western. Very much worthy of it's classic status. Surprised that it's not as well known as other classic westerns. Despite being 2 hr.
48 min., there is not one minute wasted. Very well written plus William Wyler's great direction and a cast that is fantastic especially Gregory Peck, Jean Simmons and Burl Ives (who one Best Supporting Actor).
It's also a cinematographer's wet dream. Brilliant shots of country vistas. If you're a fan of classic westerns, I highly recommend this movie. Damn good movie which Wyler would follow up with the wildly successful Oscar winning epic Ben-Hur.
10/10.
