Review of The Battered Bastards of Baseball (2014) by Rob S — 16 Jul 2014
Entertaining documentary that highlights a little known story and side of baseball that isn't talked about much. The Battered Bastards of Baseball follows the Portland Mavericks, the independent Single A team Bing Russell (Kurt Russell's dad) owned and operated from 1973-77, which ended up being one of the most wildly successful minor league teams in history and ran into all sorts of trouble with the MLB as a result.
It has a lot of interesting tidbits for baseball fans and fans of Kurt Russell, who is featured prominently, and it's message of going against the status quo and doing something for the pure love and enjoyment of it is something even non-sports fan can relate to.
