Review of The Angels' Share (2012) by Ross B — 05 Jun 2012
A great movie, and not at all condescending as some reviewers suggest. The depiction of the realities of life for many people living in Glasgow's east end has a ring of truth (as I know; I used to work there) which is helped to no small degree by the standout cast, largely unknown, who together give the film a very real feel. The story is one of redemption, through love rather than through a scam, and is well told. The film is well paced and has a darkness (in particular the scene where the main character has to face up to a previous outbreak of violence which left an innocent young man badly injured) which makes sure it's more than a light piece of whimsy.
I've seen it in the cinema and will be buying the dvd when it comes out.
