Review of The Age of Shadows (2016) by Ming Siu G — 15 Jan 2017
Wonderfully entertaining thriller with several bravura action/suspense sequences. It's set in a similar milieu as Railroad Tigers, but succeeds on every count where the latter fails - coherent action shooting and editing, real tension, and grounded emotional stakes.
The central relationship is deliciously slippery, and excellently-played. The only thing against it I have is the lack of female characters (only one, who exists solely to be a love interest, and to be tortured).
