Review of Tab Hunter Confidential (2015) by Foxgrove — 15 Oct 2015
A fitting companion to Hunter’s book this is an insightful, interesting and very entertaining documentary. Hunter, now 84, comes over as charming and likeable and the abundance of archive material is excellently presented.
His films were normally B grade and it would appear that he did some of his best work in theatre and TV working with top names like Geraldine Page. There are contributions from the likes of Robert Wagner, Debbie Reynolds and Connie Stevens.
His relationship with Anthony Perkins is touched upon, as is his re-emergence in the 80’s when he starred in a few films for John Waters in which he appeared with Divine. There are intimations that his homosexuality and good looks may have hindered his career.
That, however, is something we probably will never now know.
