Review of Sweet Movie (1974) by Michael G — 18 Oct 2008
This movie has the unique ability to offend everyone. A simple review can't adequately describe it. It is still banned in the U.K. Sweet Movie movie culminates in an orgy of Actionism that includes defication, urination, lactation, and a heavy dose of chocolate sauce.
A warning: there is one scene that places 12 year-old boys in an uncomfortable sexual situation and is the main reason it is still banned in the UK.
All in all it is a very powerful movie that is reflexive of the freewheeling times during which it was made. Also, it has strong socialist and hedonistic overtones.
If you have a strong stomach and like movies along the lines of Pink Flamingoes and El Topo, you'll find this movie fascinating.
