Review of Sweet and Lowdown (1999) by Sv G — 10 Jan 2007
I am a Woody Allen fan - but I'm also a big Sean Penn fan - I've seen all he's done - and all he's done been good - but this is my favorite role of his thus far. He fully embraces this larger than life character that could have come off cartoonish and made him not only believably real to the audience, but offers great insight to the characters persona.
He plays a jazz musician and accordingly the music in this film is a treat in itself. This is a movie I know I'll watch over and over again. NOTE this character was based loosely on the jazz musician Django Rhinehardt.
