Review of Superbad (2007) by David F — 27 May 2013
This obscene, nearly perfect teen comedy covers all the cliches of the genre as three teenage boys must get their hands on some alcohol to bring to a party to impress some girls they like. Jonah Hill is an imaginatively foul mouthed high school student who carries much of the film on his shoulders with dialogue that seems to be coming hilariously straight from a testosterone soaked id.
The film wavers a bit with the crazy antics of two police officers who give a ride to the nerd with a fake ID with the name 'McLovin' but it soon gets back on track at a party hosted by a student whose parents are out of town.
Even though the four letter words are almost non-stop, this is a film with a heart of gold and the sincere friendships it reveals beneath the teasing, sarcasm and insults are what makes it so fresh, creative and brilliant.
