Review of Super Mario Bros. (1993) by Darn C — 26 Feb 2013
It must be tough to add an interesting story to Mario. The Mario RPGs created completely different settings while referencing the original games. The difference there is that you don't see people complaining that Paper Mario isn't quite Mario enough.
On the surface, a Mario fan may knock this film down for not knowing what Mario is, but it actually does know what it's doing. Any Mario fan should try to spot as many subtle game references as possible.
All you really need for a Mario movie is a fun adventure with two likable heroes, and that's exactly what I got. I'll admit that the villain himself had questionable acting, but that's my only problem with this fun flick.
