Review of Sugar (2008) by Steve B — 04 May 2009
A somber, realistic portrayal of a cultured shock Dominican baseball player pitching in the corn fields of rural Iowa. The strongest elements of the film is watching Sugar adjust to a foreign country. From the director of "Half Nelson," these filmmakers once again tell a simple low key story with a dramatic punch.
The third act, pardon the baseball term, hits a home run into left field scoring big in a meaningful ninth inning.
