Review of Suddenly Last Summer (2012) by Maryte M — 20 Jul 2008
Elizabeth Taylor+Montgomery Clift+Tennessee Williams and of course Katherine Hepburn created an extraordinary Southern Gothic tale that you can't soon forget. Of course Hollywood's Production Code forced the writers to offer only hints of the underlying theme of homosexuality.
However, rather than taming the plot, the censors made it lurid. Moreover, to think that a common practice to treat "hysterical" women not so long ago was through a lobotomy makes this movie super, super scary.
Netflix this one today!
