Review of Student Of The Year (2012) by Sarupya P — 30 Oct 2012
Laah-dee-daah...it's one of those candy-floss, bubble-gum, colour, cosmetics and consumerism that we identify as leitmotifs of a campus flick by Karan Johar. Students will love it but methinks those past 25 years will probably see through all the jazz and find it rather plain (like me). Good songs, great performances by newcomers Siddharth Malhotra (who is quite dishy, by the way, ahem!) and Varun Dhawan (he tries very hard). Can't say the same about Alia Bhatt because while she's a pretty young thing (or 'PYT' as what kids these days call 'em) she is yet to show some substance in terms of acting. Rishi Kapoor is sweet, Ram Kapoor is funny and smarmy and Ronit Roy is charming as usual (sighhhh).
All in all, to put in another way, if this film didn't come with the KJo brand, it would have flopped.
