Review of Stop-Loss (2008) by Sam J — 08 Sep 2008
You're an American soldier signed up for war-- you serve your duty, witness the horrors of war-- and make it back home. But with the benefit of hindsight and experience, you've changed your opinion on the way this war was run, and no longer wish to be a part of it.
Luckily, that was your last tour of duty, and you're to be discharged. But, instead of permission to leave, you get a paper informing you of your next ship date-- you've been "stop-lossed.
" Due to fine print in your Army contract, at the President's discretion, your single tour of duty could turn into your second, fifth, eighth... This movie is about a soldier who tries to escape that.
And though the characters are fictional, the situations no doubt feature very real problems an American soldier might have in questioning this involuntary order. However, I wondered if the military is by volunteerism, could he not un-volunteer himself?
