Review of Standing in the Shadows of Motown (2002) by Cameron H — 21 Oct 2008
I always thought that Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong were the main musical drive behind the scenes in Motown. Lyrically they were, but I never knew that the touring/studio musicans were the actual "think tank" behind the musical ideas, clever hooks and riffs that shaped the Motown sound. This is a great documentary, well done and gives good insight into this one of a kind group of musicians.
Motown should've never moved to L.A. This and so many other films I've seen that cover the Motown years re-affirms that idea. If you're a fan or a musician, you'll like this movie.
