Review of Spartan (2004) by Pieter S — 13 Jun 2007
Plenty of good ole fashioned ass kicking means this flick has to be good. But on top of that, it also provides nourishing food for thought with the dialogue (if you're hungry in that sense).
It certainly doesn't need an underlying message to garner my approval, but even in that arena it delivers. I like the idea that Val Kilmer's character ends up acting on his own moral principles... going beyond his simple job description. Not that it's good because this guy has the "right" morals... it's good because he stands up for his beliefs. The role played by the president's daughter reveals how far some of us will go to follow our own selfish ambitions.
