Review of Solanin (2010) by Sitenoise ! — 12 Apr 2011

Pretty sappy flick about triumph after despair, and the power of music to change the world. But Miyazaki Aoi! She still has that mildly coy smile and should probably learn to leave it behind as she gets older, but if you are a fan of her she is lovely to behold once again and almost redeems the film with sweaty guitar playing.

There's a scene in the film where a guitar teacher tells her "I think guitar works best when you look cool playing it". While there's not a lot of it, and what is there is edited with great care, Miyazaki does look pretty cool playing guitar.
