Review of Sidewalls (2011) by Salley P — 23 Jun 2012
This movie reminded me a bit of 500 Days of Summer, but I'm glad to say that I enjoyed this movie much much more. Its use of animation, photography, and art really created a movie that is reminiscent to modern life and it reminded me what the medium of film truly expresses.
The references to pop culture including messaging, apple computers, and even where's waldo made this movie one of my favorites. Casting was perfection. I repeat, PERFECTION. The ending is slightly obvious, but I actually liked how the cliche was executed (it was adorable).
So many little details made me so happy in this film - the helvetica lettering, the pantone poster in Martin's room, the way a heart was drawn when Mariana and Martin unknowingly passed one another - which made this movie one of my favorites.
Not to mention it has some beautiful quotes...
