Review of Sholay (1975) by Akash B — 11 Jun 2007
It is a goddamn crime that they are remaking this film! Ramesh Sippy was following in the footsteps of the likes of Clint Eastwood, but unlike today's directors, he was influenced by, rather than ripping off, a 'Western' style.
'Sholay' is thus a glorious fusion film that holds its Indian heart within 'Western'-influenced trappings. If you start trying to compare it directly to American or Italian spaghetti Westerns, you're missing the point.
