Review of Shirkers (2018) by Tim M — 18 Nov 2018
'Shirkers' is the fascinating tale of a movie that was made, lost, found without sound and brought to life with a look on how it was made and the process it took to find. As someone that has put money into a movie that never reached completion I can tell you you go through the stages of grief, but over time you become whole.
The bizarre story about the man who helped 'Shirkers' get made over 20 years ago and then decided to abscond with the footage is one that you'll have to hear to believe. It's a documentary that is part character study, part mystery and part behind the scenes and together it makes for an entertaining look at what could have been, even if it wasn't much.
We all like to see our work reach a finished product and this is the long-awaited and hard fought debut of filmmaker Sandi Tan. Final Score: 8.2/10.
