Review of Shifty (2008) by James K — 30 Aug 2009
A snappy, promising debut... Maybe Creevy's too keen, come the final reel, to explain himself and tidy the plot's loose ends away - a rookie mistake - but elsewhere he manages to convey a whole world through the interactions of a small handful of characters, and he works minor miracles with the relationship between the pensive, baleful Mays - the thinking viewer's Danny Dyer, surely - and the sharp, spiky Ahmed.
