Review of Shaolin Martial Arts (1974) by Steve W — 23 Apr 2015
Shaolin Martial Arts is basic, but it gets the job done. Clashing factions between the Manchus and the Shaolin cause a death at a temple, and the aggressive Manchus seek to wipe out the Shaolin. Hiring two iron bodied experts, they push back the Shaolin students until they must regroup, train with masters, and attack again.
The plot goes back and forth like this, and halfway through they discover Eagle Claw and a special kick do not hurt the badguys. The Shaolin are the real underdog this time around, with some of the good guys dying quite a bit. This ramps up the tension, and there are some basic love interests to keep things from going too grim.
A spectacular final battle of crazy arm styles and violence tops up this serviceable martial arts flick from Chang Cheh.
