Review of Shaolin (2011) by David V — 28 Feb 2011
One of the best Martial Arts films to come out of China in a long. If you know your Hong Kong movies than you know who Andy Lau, Wu Jing (Jacky Wu) and Nicolas Tse are. Even Jackie Chan makes a cameo. This is a re imagining of the 1982 "Shaolin Temple" movie that launched Jet Li' career.
This version is much more polished with fine acting all around and good fight choreography (No quick edits or shaky cam) I just wished they would've explored Shaolin Kung Fu more in depth, but alas, its really not a movie about the Shaolin Temple per se but about one mans road to redemption and this is where the movie succeeds.
